The Russian company Depo Computers has developed a fully domestic software and hardware complex Depo Storm 3450E3RU on processors of the Elbrus family, which is manufactured in Krasnogorsk, near Moscow. This was reported by CNews with reference to the company’s information.
Depo Storm 3450E3RU is a server made in a 2U form factor with two 28-nm Elbrus-8CV processors. Each has eight cores with a frequency of up to 1.5 GHz, designed for use in multiprocessor servers and workstations, as well as in onboard computers that are demanding for the speed of processing and transmission of information.
The processor has 16 MB of third-level cache, supports DDR4-2400 memory (four channels). The chip is made in an FCBGA case with dimensions of 59.5 × 43 × 4.6 mm. Its serial production began in 2020. Like other representatives of the Elbrus family, it was produced in Taiwan at the TSMC factory, but due to sanctions, their production has been suspended since the end of February 2022.
The server provides for the installation of 12 NL-SAS/SAS disks in a 3.5 or 2.5-inch form factor. In the back there is a separate basket for two 2.5-inch drives (HDD or SSD) with a SATA interface and hot-swappable. There are also two power supplies of 800 watts each. The integrated Aspeed AST2500 module is responsible for graphics processing. The motherboard has eight connectors for DDR4 ECC RAM.
Depo Storm 3450E3RU is compatible with the Alt Server 10 OS, under which it can be used as an application server or data storage system, as well as used to solve other corporate tasks. Before that, he worked under the control of the OS “Elbrus”.
When used as an office storage, the drives can be combined into RAID arrays: 0/1/5/6/7.3/10/50/60/70. The server’s communication capabilities include four Gigabit Ethernet connectors, a USB 2.0 port on the back panel and one PCIe 2.0 x16, x4 and x8 with external access for low-profile expansion cards. There are also VGA, COM ports and a dedicated IPMI 2.0 management port (ASPEED AST2500). There are two USB 3.0 ports and one VGA port on the front panel.
The Alt Server system is based on the Linux kernel and is part of the family of domestic Alt OS developed by Basalt SPO (formerly ALT Linux). Taking into account the fact that hardware and software are developed and manufactured in Russia, this server can be used to implement an import substitution strategy. Until the processors run out.
