On February 24, to the official accounts of the Russian media (Zvezda TV channel, RIA Novosti news agency, Lenta Internet sites.” and “Newspaper.“) the administration of the social network Facebook (owned by Meta Platforms, Inc.) imposed restrictions on a number of publications. Thus, the administration of the social network labeled the materials of the Russian media as unreliable and imposed technical restrictions on the search output of publications to reduce the audience. As a justification for the restrictions imposed, Meta refers to violations of community rules by the Russian media.
The restrictions applied by the administration of the Facebook social network to Russian media violate the key principles of free dissemination of information and unhindered access to it for Russian users, according to a notice on the Roskomnadzor website.
Roskomnadzor has sent an official letter to the administration of Meta Platforms for each case of restriction of these Russian media with a request to remove the block and explain the reason for the imposed sanctions.
At the time of the publication of the news, the official explanation of the reasons for the application of discriminatory measures against the Zvezda TV channel, the RIA Novosti news agency, the Lenta Internet sites.” and “Newspaper.” has not been received from the Meta Platforms administration. The Internet company does not respond to Roskomnadzor’s demands to immediately unblock censored Russian media.
