Intel has announced the launch of a new Blockscale ASIC chip for mining Bitcoin and other similar cryptocurrencies using the SHA-256 algorithm. The novelty offers a high level of energy efficiency with a very high level of performance.
Key features of the new chip include a specialized ASIC processor with a secure 256 hash algorithm (SHA-256). The hashing speed of the processor reaches 580 GH/s and the energy efficiency is up to 26 J/TH. There are built-in temperature and voltage sensors, as well as the ability to support up to 256 integrated circuits in a bundle.
“Intel Blockscale ASIC will play an important role in helping bitcoin mining companies achieve their sustainability and hash rate scaling goals in the coming years,” said Jose Rios, general manager of blockchain and business solutions at Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group at Intel.
According to the announcement, among the companies that have already signed up for the purchase of a new machine are Argo Blockchain, Block Inc., Hive Blockchain Technologies and GRIID Infrastructure. It is clarified that Intel will supply customers only with the ASIC chip itself, and not a full-fledged mining system.
