AON, an international company specializing in insurance consulting, has become a victim of a cyberattack. The incident affected a “limited” number of computer systems.
As reported in Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, on February 25, 2022, the company was subjected to a cyberattack. AON did not provide any details about the incident, except that the problem affected a limited number of systems.
Immediately after the incident was identified, the company launched an investigation and used the services of third-party consultants, incident response specialists and a lawyer. The incident did not have a significant impact on AON’s activities
In addition to insurance activities, AON is also a leading reinsurance company, which means that it insures insurance companies. Receiving data dumps of clients of other insurers is a common occurrence when signing a reinsurance policy. This makes AON an attractive target for attackers who usually steal corporate data during cyberattacks.
