The US Secret Service, in partnership with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), conducted a three-day exercise, which was attended by 2,000 specialists from international, federal, state and local authorities, as well as the private sector.
As the threat of cyber attacks on critical infrastructure is gradually increasing, the event, dubbed Cyber Storm VIII, focused on assessing the response and readiness of cyber defense of existing structures.
In order to increase cyber resilience and mitigate the consequences of hacking for the participants of the exercise, a cyber attack scenario was simulated, to which they had to respond.
The Cyber Storm VIII scenario included both operational (for example, automated process control systems) and traditional corporate systems, while organizations were exposed to various impacts, such as ransomware and data theft.
