The computer systems of a large Latin American e-commerce company Mercado Libre were hacked during a cyber attack. As a result of the incident, the information of 300 thousand users of the platform was disclosed.
The company reported the incident in a special form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. As representatives of the company noted, part of its source code was subjected to unauthorized access, which led to the disclosure of user data.
“According to our initial analysis, we found no evidence of compromise of infrastructure systems, user passwords, account balances, investments, financial information or credit card information,” the company said in a statement.
Mercado Libre, represented in most Latin American countries, is the largest e-commerce and payments company in the region.
