In the United States, a citizen of Ukraine received five years in prison for criminal activity as part of the hacker group FIN7, the US Department of Justice reports.
The press release of the department says that 32-year-old Denis Ermak was a high-level hacker and as part of FIN7 from 2016 to 2018, he was looking for vulnerabilities that could be used to introduce into computer networks.
The cybercriminal group managed to hack networks across the United States and gain access to the personal data of about 20 million people. The total damage to the American economy from the activities of this criminal community amounted to about $ 1 billion.
The Ukrainian was extradited from Thailand in February 2020 after the court confirmed the legality of the American request. In November 2021, Ermak pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to commit fraud using electronic means of communication and conspiracy to hack a computer.
